Remembering Evan Blauvelt

Evan Blauvelt was born on August 17, 1978, in Colorado, but lived most of his life in Ramsey, NJ, where he grew up. Even after he moved east, he always carried a little bit of that mountain calm with him, this easy, laid-back vibe that just made you want to be around him.

If you knew Evan, you knew right away he didn’t care about the kind of stuff that doesn’t really matter. Status, things, none of that interested him. What he cared about was simple: being with the people he loved, laughing hard, and actually enjoying the moment.

He had this gift for making everyone feel comfortable. He didn’t judge, he didn’t overcomplicate anything, he just had this way of showing up as himself, which made it easy for you to do the same. Whether you’d known him forever or had just met him, Evan made you feel like you belonged. He was funny, too, the kind of funny that could call out the obvious without being mean, and he was the first to laugh at himself if he did something dumb. Hanging out with Evan was effortless. He made life lighter.

He loved being outside, whether skiing, hiking with his dogs (especially Sierra, his chocolate Lab), or playing a round of golf. He definitely took his golf seriously, but it wasn’t just about the score, it was about the time spent out there with his brother and his friends, trading stories between shots. He was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan, even when it was painful to watch. He could talk sports with anyone, but if you asked him what mattered most, it wasn’t any of that. It was his people.

Evan didn’t make a big show of his generosity, but it was there in all the ways that count. He paid attention. He made space for everyone to just be themselves and he cared deeply about everyone in his life. He did that for his family and for every single one of us lucky enough to call him a friend.
